NADIEM A MAKARIM

Nadiem Anwar Makarim, B.A., M.B.A., well known by the name Nadiem Makarim is an Indonesian Busisnessman.¹ He was born on July 4^th, 1984 in Singapore.²  Nadiem is a founder of Online Transportation Service that is known as GO-JEK in Indonesia and He was appointed as Minister of Education and Culture by President Joko Widodo on his second term's cabinet.

Nadiem started his education in Jakarta and graduated from High School in Singapore.³ After graduating from high school, he continued his studies in the department of International Relations at Brown University, USA. He also continued his study at Harvard Business School,⁴ Harvard University and graduated by bearing an MBA (Master of Business Administration).

Nadiem started his career at McKinsey & Company as management consultant in Jakarta. And we known that he had ever worked as Co-founder and Managing Editor of Zalora Indonesia. After he was leaving Zalora, Nadiem worked as a Chief Innovation Officer of Kartuku.⁵ After he had a lot of experience during the works,⁶ Nadiem Makarim then ventured to quit his job and founded the company named GO-JEK in 2010. Until finally he focussed to develope Gojek.⁷ Later in the same year, GO-JEK as the company was officially established by Nadiem Makarim who served as CEO of GO-JEK. GO-JEK service offers the ease and speed by cooperating with the conventional ojek driver under GO-JEK company.

Gojek was first established as a call centre, offering only courier delivery and two-wheeled ride-hailing services. Then Gojek has transformed into a super app,⁸ providing more than 20 services, ranging from transportation, food delivery, groceries, massage, house cleaning, logistics to a cashless digital payment platform called GoPay. And now it has become one of the major startups in Indonesia and southeast Asia.⁹

In October 23^rd, 2019 Nadiem elected as Minister of Education and Culture and then subsequently resigned from his position at GO-JEK.¹⁰
